Executive Producer Michael Chechik has been an independent producer and director of documentaries, television series and dramatic productions since 1975. He executive produced the children's fantasy/adventure television series The Odyssey for CBC. This series has aired in over 60 countries, has been nominated for an International Emmy Award and has received a Gemini for Best Youth Programme, among other prestigious awards. He is also the executive producer of Hi-Tech Culture, a series for the Discovery Channel Canada, about the impact of the digital revolution on society. This award-winning series has been broadcast in 25 countries.
Chechik has also executive produced Champions Of The Wild, a 65-part natural history series filmed worldwide featuring experts in animal research and protection. He also recently finished production on two one-hour specials for Discovery's Animal Planet in the U.S., Spidermania and The Man Who Would Be Moose.
Chechik will executive produce the upcoming fifth season of the popular teen drama Edgemont for the CBC this year. Chechik's other credits include numerous early documentary films including Greenpeace - Voyages To Save The Whales and Rites Of Spring, both broadcast on various networks including PBS and BBC.
Executive Producer/Series Creator Ian Weir is a screenwriter, playwright and novelist. Produced credits include more than 100 episodes for such TV series as Nothing Too Good For a Cowboy, Cold Squad, Flash Forward, The Odyssey, Northwood, Beachcombers and Lies From Lotus Land. Prior to Edgemont he finished two seasons as Executive Story Editor on CBC-TV's one-hour series Nothing Too Good For a Cowboy. Previously, he served as Executive Story Editor on the popular Nickelodeon teen-drama Fifteen, and as Senior Story Editor on CTV's one-hour police drama Cold Squad.
Weir's stage plays, which include St. George, Bloody Business and the Jessie Award-winning The Idler, have been produced across Canada, as well as in the U.S. and England. Other credits include nine radio plays (three produced by the BBC, and six by the CBC) and three juvenile novels. Current projects include the screenplay for the feature film The Suspect, based on the novel by L.R. Wright, currently in pre-production and starring Donald Sutherland.
